WINTER OF OUR WINS

In Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk at the Spartak Stadium took place a colorful closing ceremony of the first Children of Asia Winter Games, which was the culmination of a big sports festival.

History

In 2016, on the initiative of the former head of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia) Egor Borisov, the Children of Asia International Committee decided to hold the 1st Winter Children of Asia International Sports Games.

Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Sakhalin Oblast, which hosted the Games in 2019, was the main contender to host the 1st Winter Children of Asia Games. A favorable climate, snowy and warm winter, transport accessibility of sports venues, availability of hotel infrastructure, as well as of catering facilities - all these factors are of great importance for the competitions.

In total, about 800 athletes from 20 countries took part in the competition: Afghanistan, Armenia, Hong Kong, India, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Republic of Korea, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Nepal, UAE, Russia, Philippines, Syria, Tajikistan, Thailand, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Japan.

During the 1st Winter Children of Asia Games, 91 sets of medals were awarded in 8 sports: biathlon, alpine skiing, speed skating (short track), cross-country skiing, snowboarding, ski jumping, figure skating and hockey.

The Games were officiated by more than 450 qualified referees meeting the requirements of international sports federations.
