Governmental Commission of Russia decided to hold the 1st Winter Children of Asia Games in Sakhalin next year. It will be also discussed in February during the Board meeting of the Games International Committee. According to Mr. Vladimir MAKSIMOV, head of Children of Asia Games Administration Sakhalin is ready to organize competitions at a high level.
"Sakhalin has got all necessary infrastructure for Winter Children of Asia Games. The Gorniy Vozdukh Ski Resort is a part of the Advanced Development Territories. The existing facilities and those that under construction should meet all the requirements for holding major competitions", - said Mr. Vladimir MAKSIMOV.
According to him many of them are certified by international sports federations, so there will be no problems with organizing competitions. Sakhalin is one of the basic regions where the winter Olympic teams of the country will train.
The sports agenda of Winter Children of Asia Games will include figure skating, hockey, short track, alpine skiing, snowboard, biathlon and cross-country skiing.
"Participants from Yakutia will arrive charter flights. The region’s location is quite convenient, so delegations from Asian countries will arrive facing no logistics problems". Mr. MAKSIMOV emphasized.
According to the questionnaire conducted among the Olympic committees of Asia, 18 countries confirmed their preliminary participation. According to the plan the 1st Winter Children of Asia International Sports Games will bring together a thousand of athletes from at least ten foreign countries.
