History
The IV Children of Asia International Sports Games were held at a significant time - in the year of the XXIX Summer Olympic Games in Beijing. In addition, for the first time in the history of the Games, they were held in three cities: Yakutsk, Mirny and Neryungri. The Gornyak indoor stadium in Neryungri, the Kimberlite sports complex and the Triumph stadium in Mirny were built for the Games.
The competition brought together 1,854 athletes from 16 foreign countries - Azerbaijan, India, Indonesia, Iran, Jordan, Kazakhstan, China, Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Mongolia, Tajikistan, Thailand, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Japan and 27 regions of Russia.
In total 184 sets of medals in 18 sports were played. In Yakutsk competitions were held in basketball, boxing, volleyball, freestyle wrestling, judo, athletics (including Yakut jumps), mas-wrestling, powerlifting, gymnastics, archery, taekwondo, soccer, checkers, chess, shooting (demonstration type). In Mirny - in rhythmic gymnastics, soccer, dance sport. In Neryungri - in basketball and table tennis.
A mammoth with a torch in its right paw, emitting flames of five tongues of blue, black, red, yellow and green colors - the colors of the Olympic emblem - was chosen as the mascot of the IV Children of Asia IUCI.
For the first time, the program of the Games included competitions in girls' basketball, freestyle wrestling, medley wrestling and wrestling.
