Today is the birthday of Mr. Mikhail Nikolayev, the first President of the Sakha Republic of (Yakutia), the founder of the Children of Asia International Sports Games. The 1st Games were organized in 1996 by the initiative of Mr. Mikhail Nikolayev dedicated to the 100th anniversary of modern Olympic Games.
More than 250 young athletes from 10 teams took part in the 1st Games: China, Republic of Korea, Thailand, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Buryatia, Tyva, Aginsky Autonomous Okrug and Yakutia. They competed for 225 medals and 8 sports: track and field, wrestling, boxing, checkers, chess, judo, archery, table tennis.
