Azerbaijani judoka Hidayat Heydarov claimed Olympic gold in the men’s 73 kg weight category. In the final bout, he achieved a decisive victory over France’s Joan-Benjamin Gaba with an ippon.
Heydarov, a world champion and four-time European champion, secured Azerbaijan’s first medal at the Paris Games. This marks the country’s first Olympic gold since 2016 and the first gold for Azerbaijani judokas since 2008.
